E Type Tool kit advice please
Discussion
FHC S3 E-type, 1971, V12 5.3 Litre.
Hi Hope someone can help . What basic tool kit should I carry for a European Tour in the above model E Type. Havn't seen the car yet , so don't even know if the late E Types are metric or A/F
Any problem things I should be aware of on this specific model? .
Cheers Rog

I'd first ask what condition is the old girl in?
So have the drive belts been changed recently?
Have the coolant hoses been changed?
Has the coolant system been flushed?
Has the thermostat been changed recently?
Have the fuses been replaced since 1971?
Has the car has been test run on a dyno, just to get a good view on the fueling across the rev range?

thanks but wow! I wasn't expecting all that . The car has been maintained and fully serviced by a specialist garage and is running very well . Basically it's ready to go . Just need a tool kit for routine , the unexpected will be sorted by 5 Star recovery . The car doesn't have it's Jaguar Tool kit ....which would be ???? If I could find one .
After 120,000 miles all over Europe, from Norway to Morocco, in the E-type I'de advise the following:-
Compulsory items under EU law.
1. One only high viz jacket, to be kept in the car not the boot. Fine though if it is a coupé.
2. Warning triangle (two if Spain).
3. Set of bulbs, but I've never been asked for these but carry a couple anyway, although I've very rarely had a problem.
My advisory items, based on problems I've had.
1. A spare fuel pump. The primary point of failure this.
2. Spare fan belt
3. Spare in-line brake switch (if applicable depending on the year of the car)
4. Spare hoses (I carry the top and bottom radiator hoses).
5. An AF socket set and of course jack and lever.
6. Set of carburettor washers.
7. Spare oil pressure sender (mine shorted and damned near burned out the gauge and set the car on fire). I've had numerous fail.
8. A gallon of 20/50 oil if you have space.
9. A can of Radseal.
10. Make sure you have the spare fully pumped up before you leave, and set the tyre pressures for 28 front 30 rear assuming you run on radials.
11. Check all the banjo unions on the carbs are fully tightened. I've seen a car go up in smoke due to a leak from the front car onto the distributor.
12. Have a bloody good time and the car if well maintained will not fail you. In 30 years I've had two fail-to-proceed breakdowns, both a dynamo bush failure. If I think of any more I'll modify.
Edit: Forget #3 since it's a V12 later model. Substitute a gold credit card for the fuel bill.
