Got a friend who wants to get rid of an X-Type with a suspected HGF. As yet I don't know the year or mileage, but I was wondering firstly, how hard a job is a HGF on an X-Type, and secondly, what is the market like at the moment for what I assume is quite a petrol guzzler - is it as bad as I suspect it is?

It's a massive job. Horrible car to work; the worst Jaguar have ever made.

To give you an idea on costs, had HGF on my XJR earlier this year - bill was just under £3k to have the job done properly at a specialist

(I know that includes supercharger removal & refit, that's not relevant, but if the job's a bugger, the price goes up & you did say it was for an X-Type....)

Have a look at the value of a similar spec X-Type, take off the likely £2 - 3k for the engine rebuild, halve the balance, wince, half it again and you are likely looking at a trader's bid on the car wink

Received thanks.

Thanks guys for your replies. Just to make it clear I'd be looking at doing the work myself. I've rebuilt a few engines in my time and have an engine crane and all the tools needed (except for any specialist Jaguar tools I may need). Just wanted to know whether it would take me a weekend or several weeks and whether there was anything particularly tricky about it.
