My 2006 3.0 petrol S-Type is due for it's 70K/7 year service. The local dealer has a special offer on for a basic service and 100 point check for £129, which seems like a bargain. So I emailed them to enquire and they also pointed out that my spark plugs are due for replacement. This would cost an additional £424, which seems a bit steep to say the least. Is there something special about the plugs and/or are they particularly difficult to change, or are they having a laugh?

Cheers,

VladD.

I have an S-Type 4.2 V8 SE. Last week it had a 110,000 mile service + MoT + other work. I was told that the spark plugs were due to be changed at 100,000 but this was inadvertantly overlooked and so was needed to be done now. Apparently, the plugs are due to be changed only every 100,000 miles. Each plug cost £9.55 + VAT. Total bill for the 110,000 miles service, plugs being replaced, MoT, expiring warranty check over and one or two other things was £532 including VAT. All this with a JMD.

The above makes the cost of replacing plugs for your S-Type 3.0L look expensive.

I think that getting to the plugs on one side of the V6 requires removal of the manifold, so it could be that there's a lot of man hours there, but it still seems expensive.

Loads of threads on the problems of removing the inlet manifold, but as regards the price of the plugs I think that was including the labour, not just the plugs. A quick google came up with this:-

Seems a slightly different price to me.

£424!!!!!!I`ve done a few of these,20 minute job at at the most to remove the manifold.
The plastic breather pipes that run through and around them are brittle and will break if not removed carefully but £424,FFS!
Was the service thief wearing a neckerchief over his face when quoting you?bandit

I've found an independant Jag man now who will do the whole service for around £200. He wasn't very complimentary about the main dealer to say the least.
