hi..just toying with the idea of a Daimler Super V8 (2006 or so) Vs a similar year Bentley (Conti GT or Flying Spur).
Anyone got any views to help me decide?

Thing is, the Bentley is probably a better car, but you can't exactly drive it to work and let your colleagues see how much I am overpaid!

With the Daimler, similar ride, comfort, spec....but it is 'just a Jag' to the untrained eye....so more likely to be accepted at work...

Running costs for the Daimler probably 50% of the Bentley?

anyway....over to you knowledgeable folks....

I would have thought that hey bare no comparison in terms of purchase and running costs.

Super V8 was the establishment choice - Chairman BoE, PM's and Royalty. I think the Conti GT, and to a lesser extent the Spur, have a different clientele.

To the untrained eye the Daimler is 'just a Jag'.... Isn't that exactly what it is?

Then again, a Conti GT, to some, is just a slightly different Phaeton. If you go for the Conti, and you're worried about what others think, just say you play football at weekends biggrin
They aren't to know it's only for the local Saturday League

I note the same thread in RR/Bentley section. In all seriousness, I don't think the later Bentleys generate the same 'anti-capitalist' feelings as, perhaps, some of the others might have done. Whether that's because there are more of them around, I don't know.

The Conti is a very nice car (as is the Flying Spur), but is a very different car to the old style Bentley, of which the new Mulsanne is probably more representative. Unless, of course, you're talking about an older Continental R (or T), which to the people at work would just be 'another old car'.

As this is the Jaguar section, no doubt all votes will be for the Daimler.

Enjoy the decision making.

thanks for the comments guys...yes, it is on both forums as I wanted to see if it made a difference to the decision....

as for football...dread to think of the mud getting on those carpets....son has to walk home, no question!

Finally, yes, I was talking about the conti GT rather than the older style bentleys...being VW based, running costs are not as high as, say, an Arnage or the newer Mulsanne...I might be wrong, never having sat in a Bentley, never mind having owned one!
