Surprised at the comments,
Discussion
A few months ago I bought a bright red Mazda RX8. I think it's a great looking sports coupe and I thought other people would think so too, but much to my surprise very few people comment on it.Imagine my surprise when 8 weeks ago I bought my first Jaguar, an XJ8 Sovereign 2000 model in Emerald Green, when every single time I go out, to service stations, to hardware stores and people everywhere comment on what a beautiful car it is. I would have thought it would have been considered a conservative "old mans car" so I am "dead chuffed" to be getting to comments. Mind you I live in rural Australia where you you don't see many Jags, but I really get a kick out of the comments. Also I never take it out unless it absolutely gleaming, which helps the appeal. I suppose they're fairly common in Britain.
I've got a XJ8 Sovereign 2000 model in Pacific Blue and they're not really what I'd say 'common' here in the UK. (Probably most have been scrapped now!) Lots and lots of X-types about and now there's lots of the XF model to be seen.
As a Jaguar enthusiast I'm fortunate to live just a few kilometres south of Gaydon so I see new Jags on test every day and lots of ones that look a little 'different'. Lots of Astons, too. Rapides, Cygnets, all over the place!
30-odd years ago when I lived in Lithgow I had an XJ6 (also in dark blue) and it was a rare beast in those parts. Manual gearbox, I wish I still had it. It was perceived as being pretty special then. But then a fella down the Great Western Highway near Mt Vic bought an XJ12 so I didn't have the top Jag in the area any more!
Look after your car, I still think the X308 is rather special.

There's massive tax on any decent car in Oz LOL. With the money I spent on my XKR I could by another for the missus in Europe/U.S
I find the same regarding rarity/comments. I drive the 2010 XKR and I still haven't seen a 5L XKR on the road in Melbourne and only a couple of 4.2L. It's more common to see a Vantage etc..... You do see quite a few XFs around but there's such a range there that it's not surprising.

Simpo Two, how right you are. Several months ago while surfing the net I came across the new Jaguar sports (can't tell you the exact model) but I was so impressed, it was listed at about $70,000 , I thought if I really stretched I might be tempted so I phoned Jag dealer in Melbourne to check on availability and the price. The salesman was highly amused....the site I had ben viewing was in the USA...the price of the car in Australia was $240,000.Needless to say i didn't order one. Thanks to all the responses to my posting.
