I recently had my car serviced by a main dealers and to say I was a bit disappointed is an understatement.
The first item of concern was the electric windows. They'd disconnected the battery at some point but not reset the windows. I found this out the next day when I opened them to get a parking ticket and then found they wouldn't go all the way up. Not such a big problem when you know what was happening, and how to re-set them, but imagine if I hadn't- I'd have had to left the windows partially open in a City centre carpark all day.
The second and most disturbing was their report that the nsf lower ball joint was showing excessive play and would be an MOT fail. They quoted me nearly £700 for the work.
A few days later I took it to the local MOT station to get their opinion. Even with their MOT equipment the car was a pass, with out even an advisory.
I then took it to a local specialist for some extra work which needed doing and asked him to look. He reported that their was the "minutest" of play but it was more than ok at the present time.
After the service from the main dealers I received a text asking if I was happy and if not to reply. I did and heard nothing back. Later I also received an email from the group asking me to complete a survey of my experience. I did, listing my complaints, and yet again no contact.
I could, of course, ring up and have a right moan, but where would it get me apart from stressed?
Instead i prefer to post threads like these to warn others of my experience and use independents in future as I found that was a very poor use of £500 tbh.

Also waiting central contact following online questionnaire, and contact from (different) dealer following service. I was generally satisfied with my service at the time, however interested to hear how you get on.

of course not, but I'd hoped no Jaguar main dealers were so inept.
2 months later and no contact.

I suspect the first time I hear from them will be when it's time for it's next service

I had the gearbox oil replaced on my recently acquired XK8 yesterday at a local independent garage and ended up discussing with them about main dealers. He said that the X type they had in had a completely sooted up air filter. Because they use the main dealer which had serviced the car a lot for parts they spoke to the parts department there about the car and were told "it had a new filter 3000 miles ago, at least, they were charged for one then". Very disappointing for a main dealer of a prestige brand (or any, come to that).

I found stratstone of burnham to be good, although I use powerbell of taplow now as being an indie, are much cheaper.

Hmm, called in today to find they hadn't actually ordered the part they said it needed 3 weeks ago, hence no phone call, because the part hadn't arrived.

However I can have some respect for the total lack of BS, no stupid excuses, just "sorry our mistake".

Promised the part and phone call within 2 days, so we'll see!

Note: None of the dealers mentioned in any of the above posts.

Despite the comment of mine above, for parts the same main dealer was great today. I needed a coil pack and phoned to check the price, turned out to be as cheap as I could get anywhere from an independent online and they said they could get it today. Within 3 hours they phoned to say it had arrived so very happy with that. And the car is running beautifully again!
