Hi folks,
As above, I've an x308 xjr, and fairly regularly get "TRAC NOT AVAILABLE" on the dash when starting it up.

Any idea what is likely to be the problem? I'm guessing sensors of some kind...

Almost certian to be a failing battery. There will be enough current to start but the resulting voltage drop when doing so triggers the trac not available message.

You could try a long - several days - trickle charge to see if the fault indication stops but I'm guessing you'll be buying a new battery soon.

It's been a while, but I recall that a similar problem on one of my X308s was traced to a faulty ABS sensor.

Hi,
I reckon you could be right, it only goes out at weekends usually so perhaps is not that fully charged. Plus I don't know how old the battery is...

Anything to watch for when/if swapping it for a replacement? (And where is a good place to get one ;-)

You can't go wrong with a Bosch Silver - unbelievably I got best price from Halfords when I bought but nowadays you can usually shave about £15-20 on the internet. Try for at least 800 amps cranking current or volts will drop during starting and the first module to error and complain is the TRACS/DSC one. Varta is also good (I heard they manufacture for Bosch and Jaguar OEM but can't confirm or deny).

Mine did this a lot when I first got it, I replaced the battery with the heaviest duty one I could find and it has been fine since, except, after a very heavy downpour when it occasional comes back.

Took it for a good run this afternoon, and the nasty message hasnt re-appeared since. So will keep an eye on it for now...seems like a good excuse to drive it a bit more anyway ;-)

I had this message and loads of other electrical gremlins when I first got my XJR. As they were intermittant, fairly random and always cleared after a restart, I decided it was an electrical connection problem.

I made and remade as many connectors as possible and also removed the earths and cleaned them up. This cures the problem for about 6 months. Usually the first sign that it needs doing again is OBD CANBus errors. These often show as ABS, Cruise, Trac not available.
