X Type 3.0

Advice/help please - thinking of buying a 3.0 litre X Type saloon.

It is a 2001 car on a 'Y' plate in dark green with full cream leather, all the extra's including a glass sliding sun-roof with a genuine 48k miles on the clock.

Dealer wants £3k or will take my 91 'Y' plated Renault Laguna + £2.5k cash.

It's a great looking car with a full service history however i dont know if the price os right or too much.

Also dont know what the pitfalls might be or what the road-tax per annum is so any advise on whether it is a good buy would be appreciated.

Have a look at in the classifieds, Autotrader and ebay to give you a feel for the prices.
Granted a privae sale, but came across this one:

I saw this one earlier - its a similar spec albeit on a 53 plate whereas the one i have been looking at is on a 'Y' plate.

Also the exhaust's on the one i saw were a lot larger - huge in fact.

I think that £3k might be too high however i dont know what to offer for it.

I would do a bit more research. I was looking at these and a good few were half that money

£3k is very strong money on that but it sounds good. They have taken a massive hit in the last 12 months.

eBay a few weeks back saw a 3.0se with all the options, 2 owners, history and 47k from new, 02-plate go for £2k. It was identical to mine but tidier!

Mine has big exhaust tips and it's a bit louder than normal

Be wary of the transfer box and prop shaft whining. Lot of money to do - £1-1.5k+

If it isn't utterly whine and rumble free walk away.

thank you six feind - off to have a good look & test drive tomorrow so i will have a good listen to the box/prop shart.

it has big pipes on it so sounds really good.
