Hello everyone,

the following idea crossed my mind:

Would it be feasible to install a Gen III AJ-V8 (AJ33 5.0 SC) into a late X308 XJR (AJ27S 4.0 SC)?
If so, what critical issues could arise? (e.g. ECU, gearbox, ancillaries, exhaust).

Best regards,
Florian

I always loved the shape of the X308 XJR - especially in black.
The combination of the high sills and the low roof really gives it that slender, cat-like look.
Not that the original car ever lacked in the power department (it goes very well), but a combination with the latest V8 could turn out to be quite striking...

Great thought but probably horrifically difficult if not impossible. Even your 4.0 SC X308 uses multiple computers and CAM bus to link them all together. The 4.2 is not even compatible so the only complete conversion requires all the looms and control swapped too. NormanD and a few others have done a 4.2 conversion to a 4.0SC engine and provided you use a load of bits from the 4.0 you can update the block so a 5.0SC using 4.0SC rails etc. might be viable. If you just want 5.0SC power why not go to TL Jaguar and take the KB super charger upgrade etc ? You can even go manual at the same time smile

P700DEE is correct, you need to reuse some of your 4.0 parts, have done 2 conversions myself. But the 5.0 is a completely different animal, it only shares the coolant from the 4.2. Quickly thinking the cheapest way would be to develop your own ECU for the engine control,(possibly also retain the gearbox or create a new bell house) and have this to speak with the computers in the x308. All is doable, but if you also have to pay for the work/pioneering, it will probably be north of 20K.
