Morning chaps,

My dad just bought a 2011 XK Portfolio, lucky man. He's off on an extensive European road trip in September and doesn't want to do it armed with only a can of foam. Any suggestions on where to source a suitable space saver spare? Jag dealer wants £600 for a 'space saver spare wheel kit'!!

Usually I'd say eBay but can't find much on there.

thanks in advance

I got rid of my spacesaver to get more boot space in my XKR 5.0l-for long trips luggage space bit small-I ahve done this for years on TVRs and Jags and carried couple of cans of spray-remenber you probably cannot get punctured wheel in boot of car anyway so not worth carrying spacesaver

Hmm thats a point, I'll suggest he checks that!

Quite a while back he had a 928 S4 and the two punctures on that (in 8 years) both affected the sidewall... a can of foam aint going to fix that, hence desire for a spacesaver to limp somewhere. Otherwise its back of a trailer in the middle of Europe which is going to disrupt the trip, and cost.

If you are touring in europe I would think you can get a replacement tyre fairly quickly so either way you are not going to ruin trip-plus Jag Assist would have some idea on solution

Hi

I had the same thoughts when I drove the XKR-S (2008) to Italy last year. As mentioned above 20" rear wheels will not go in the boot with two weeks worth of holiday luggage. ( I could have left wifey on the side of the road I guess wink )

I took the following as insurance:
2 x Tyre repair kits, plus spare plastic feeder tubes (these can only be used once).
Hired a Satellite Mobile for the two weeks, a bit overkill but I've read to many stories of people getting a flat and having to walk miles on a dark wet night just to get a phone signal ( even in UK ).
Jaguar Extended Warranty - includes EU and extended stay on breakdown etc.

We used the Jaguar Extended Warranty - as we had a fault with the car, the dealer loan us a car. We had to claim on the for parts/labour and extended stay. Claiming was all trouble free, note you have to claim via two different companies.

We were offered a cheap fight home (yeah right) or a rental car, but if you take this option you have to get taxi between countries (crazy!). So we stayed on and waited for the car to be ready.

Generally be prepared, plan for the worst. Hopefully he'll just have a lovely time and won't need any of the above.
