Recently listed my Tuscan in the classifieds with a view to getting a 2+2 etype. My budget is going to be up to ~20k, however I'm a bit worried that I'll get a usable car for that. There do seem to be a few cars available (not viewed any yet mind!), however am I being realistic or just opening myself for potential bankruptcy if I get a duffer? I'd be ruling out auto's and possibly LHD's so I guess this narrows the choice further, but I would be open to cars needing cosmetic stuff that would be usable.

Any advice appreciated!

I have a series 2,RHD, 2+2 red one with original leather sunroof coming to sale. That is my Dad's car smile I am not 100% he is going to sell it but he has been talking about it lately. Our "local" expert said that 4xk€ is realistic price for the car. About 40k miles on this car. So that is the normal price range in Finland for this car.

Cheers, think realistically its jut going to be series 3's in budget. Having a look in the classifieds there appear to be a couple of really nice s1 or s2's 2+2's at 30k but don't really want to stretch to that.

Of course you can always buy yourself a project car very cheap but you should then love spending more time on garage than on the road. Upside in E-types is that they are very famous collectors cars and prices just keep on climbing. Our expert says that he would surely sell more than he can acquire for the customers.

You should just about get an S3 for your budget.

You need to be very very careful what you're buying though. You can easily end up with a disaster on your hands and you could easily spend the same again on putting it right.

This looks good value to me from a reputable compnay that I've dealt with personally.

That looks really nice, however need to shift my car first cheers. Out of interest, what areas make the etype so pricey to repair, eg parts, complexity to work on etc? Also anyone know what sort of mpg a V12 will get?

A friend of mine is in the process of rebuilding an E-Type

I have a feeling the machanicle side isn't to pricey providing your not going into Concors conditions

It's the bodywork that is taking many 100's or even 1,000's of hours cleening and cutting out and welding in new metal
All has to be Jiged as well to keep the correct shape

Sorry, had to stop laughing first. V12 E-types don't get MPG.. unless that's metres per gallon wink

I think mine gets around 10-12MPG, but she's not perfect yet. You can pick up LHD or LHD converted to RHD V12's for 15-18k, but they will need some work doing to them. Mine cost around 16k, and I've spent roughly 3.5k so far, and she's useable in everything except a traffic jam when she gets a little hot. The cooling system is next on my list of things to do, but the engine has around 70k miles on the clock, hardly used in the last 20 years, and converted to RHD by the previous owner.

Fantastic to drive, even with a V12.. she's a great weekend car, however impractical the engine size is smile

OP, are you still looking for a car?

My dad may be looking to sell his '69 4.2 2+2.

It's red and is in very usable condition only requiring a tiny bit of paint repair (bumped it on the garage door).

Let me know if you're interested.
