Reverse Park Sensing XK8
Discussion
Gents
my newly purchased XK8 has reverse park sensing but when engaged you just get a single tone for 5 seconds then nothing I believe the 5 second tone is an error tone. I am guseeing that the problem is going to be with the control unit in the boot well.
If this is the problem and dont know how you test it - my thoughts are can you wire an aftermarket reverse aid by using the feed to the reverse lamps and a power direct from the battery or is the Jaguars wiring too sensitive for this approach.
Let me know what you think
Cheers

I could never hear anything either - hearing not good enough at high frequencies
Probabilities :
90% - wiring to the back of one or more of the sensors (they get covered with road muck). Remove, clean with contact cleaner and re-connect.
50% - one failed sensor. Identify and replace.
20% - more than one failed sensor. Identify and replace.
10% - failed control unit. Very rare from what I have observed.
My 5-second warning tone on my '05 XK8 was cured by the first step detailed above.

Hi
Had the same problem when I owned an S Type.
The method of checking you have been offered is correct, and on mine I was able to identify the faulty sensor.
Just a thought, did you have the engine running, with a 'trusted' mate behind the when with his / her foot on the brake, with the car in reverse when you listened for the clicking noise?
Noise only there when reverse is selected and the reverse aid is activated.
