Hi there, I own a Jaguar XKR Supercharged 2003 with just 46000 miles on the clock the car is in immaculate condition very high spec, including recaro seats, detroit wheels, and Brembo breaks, she drives fantastic. last weekend i noticed a strong smell of petrol..after investigation checking in the boot (the fuel tank) I noticed fuel dripping from the bottom of the tank, the same side where the battery is loacted!!

I have now had the tank remioved and found a 'pin hole' in a crease in the tank where the fuel is escaping from.

My question is: Has any other jaguar owner had this problem? not only is it extrmley dangerous, but is of great concern, considering thye age of the vehicle, I would have thought that a car like this new, £59000 would have been built a little bit stronger..

Any viewes welcome? eek

Hi - friend of mine runs a 2004 XKR and had exactly the same issue as you - smell of petrol and then discovering a leaky tank.

Took a few weeks for his garage to source him a new tank.

No issues on my XK8 Convertible yet......

jdw100 Thanks for your reply, not just me then..slightly worrying though, new tank from Jaguar costs £1,098 plus 20% vat so circa £1400. I am having the pin hole 'mig welded' hopefully that should be it..very difficult to get the tank out though..best of luck with your XK8 best regards.

Hope the tank is a long way from the rest of the car when they start welding it, otherwise £1400 could look very cheap. A brave man with the mig!

It's possible to purge the tank of fumes using exhaust gases, I believe
But I still wouldn't want to watch!!!

Thanks all, the weld went well. Now to see if the leak as gone, and manage to put the tank back into position. As suggested a pipe was put on an exhaust of another car and connected to the tank before the welding commenced.

A match would probably do the same!

Militaryman - glad the tank has survived welding!
