Sorry if this has been done to death.
Thinking about buying an XJ and converting it to run LPG and would really appreciate some advice from the wise owls on here. Can anyone recommend an installer and which model car (300/350) would be the best model to mod.
Thanks.

Go-LPG specialise in these. Its worth a look at their website which I seem to remember is very informative.

Hi,

I've had 2 XJ's converted. An X300, converted at 120k, still running fine at 325k when I sold it, and my current car, an XJ350. It's a 4.2 SE, with a BRC kit. It was converted at 40k, and now is at 90k.

I'm a big fan of LPG, and never encountered any LPG related problems, both cars seem to have converted well. I bought both cars with the conversions already done, so didn't have any teething issues, and usually I have an LPG service every 12k or so.

So, before you LPG it .... check the timing chain tensioners are the latest type, that the gearbox oil has been changed at some point !

(Neither the X300 or X350 have the timing chain problem, although the X350 does need the 'Sealed for life" gearbox oil changing at somepoint !

Have you found the LPG forum ?, I don't know any one in Surrey or Hants, but installer is key to your happiness !

Don't go for the cheapest, but find someone who has done a 4litre V8 Jag before, not all installers/installations are the same ... I once went to look at a 2001 XJ8 where the LPG pipe had literally been plastic welded into the air box...and that was the fuel intake !

My X350 was done here;

http://www.lpgconversionsltd.co.uk

This is nowhere near where I live, and it was converted before I bought the car, although I have been back once for a service, and once for what I thought was an LPG fault (it wasn't). The service was impeccable, they didn't charge me at al for an hours fiddling to find a MAF sensor fault (non LPG fault), so maybe worth a call ?

I have no direct experience, but Arun Jaguar (Sussex, seem to do a lot of LPG cars), so again worth a call.

Possibly worth a call to to the local Jaguar indies in your area, see if they know of any LPG people used to dealing with X308's

God luck

Thanks for all that, just reading about the chain tensioners so will get that done asap as its probablly worth doing just for peace of mind. The cars done 77k so I guess a gearbox oil change would also be a good thing.
Pick it up this afternoon, at 4.0l its the smallest V8 I own hehe

I looked at a couple of X300s with gas conversions. In both cases, for someone who tours a lot, the conversion/tank made the boot impossibly small.
