So. Currently drive a Mk5 GTI which I bought last year as part of a cost cutting exercise (moved from a Cayman). It is without a doubt the dullest car I have ever driven, not because of the power but just the general ownership experience. I do about 8,000 miles a year. Was browsing Autotrader and found this......

It appears to have a full Jag service history with one owner. I'm hoping that someone will tell me its a bad idea and it will certainly bankrupt me. Please advise :-)

Sorry can't help lol. Your major costs will be fuel, the 4.2 is pretty much sorted and they take mileage very well. Looks in great condition too. Expensive consumables will be brake disks and as heavy GTs you will need to keep an eye on suspension parts especially lower ball joints (look for heavy wear on the inside edge of the tyres)
It will not however drive like a Cayman, nor even the Golf but as a fast GT with that supercharger thrust they are great fun and can be pushed on at great speed using the J gate for "manual" changes.
Norman will be on soon to tempt you into a manual box and a performance upgrade to 600 BHP with an LSD, add a few suspension mods and you will never look back.

What kind of costs are we talking about? 20 mpg fuel bills dont worry me or is it much worst that that? How much are the main consumables like discs and pads, tyres? Is an XKR much more expensive to run than an XK8? Thanks

Jaguar parts are actually fairly well priced in comparison with ze German counter parts. But a car like this can not be run on a budget. My advice would be to find a local specialist to look after her and join the JEC (Jaguar Enthusiast Club) and enjoy the car

What a waste of time. Just called the guy and apparently 'JAGUAR SERVICE HISTORY' means it has Jaguar stamps until 60k, then no stamps at all! Hmmm. Think I might have to keep an eye out for another.

It may well bankrupt you, but it is definitely a very good idea

Odd that it is just 60K and one owner but 130K total miles. You can check the service history, main dealer work is all on the computer so you can contact any dealer. Guess the missing stamps is why it is so cheap though. Probably has been serviced either not stamped or done at an independent, you could check the local ones to the car. XKR costs nothing more than an 8, just 1-2mpg although if hooning you will also wear out the brakes and tyres quicker lol. I get 21mpg from a 4.0R, 4.2s are better as you have a sixth gear.
