2001 XJR8 pinking above 3k.
Discussion
Hi guys,
Welcome to the next thrilling installment of 'What's wrong with it this week!'
After having lost the front NS tyre on the motorway on Sunday, (I'm fairly sure that's incidental but I thought I'd mention it for substance!), I was driving through a village on my way home considering the implications of whether my wheel was now toast when I entered a lovely long and straight section or NSL SC.
As you would do, I opened her up expecting to hear the glorious charger whine and be pushed back in my seat by the relentless wave of power when I started feeling hesitation, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and I started hearing the engine pinking like I was driving over bubble wrap.
I backed off and limped the 5 miles home feeling somewhat dejected.
So what I have now it a sound at idle and light throttle like a blowing manifold but it's not that pronounced and it still won't rev' over 3k without that horrible pinking noise. There are no EMU lights now.
I haven't had the codes read yet, (I'm hoping the friendly neighbourhood auto spark' can fit me in over the next few days!), but I'm wondering if any of you guys might have any ideas in advance.
The only thing I could maybe attribute it to is that I put about half a tank of 'village garage' fuel in it before I left but this happened after a 70 mile round trip and it performed faultlessly until I was nearly back home.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Pinking is not good news with our V8 engines.
A hard reset may help as it will reset the engine to base parameters from which it will start learning again. It could be a huge list of simple problems, MAF, O2 sensors, leak in the vacuum system etc. Putting it on a full Jaguar system will help as they can read off the values and see what is out of spec.
Plenty of indi's have the kit, time to find one

Oh, I've found one but he's 50 miles away. A hard reset may help as it will reset the engine to base parameters from which it will start learning again.
