my 2008 XKR seems to have developed a problem with the front drivers side wheel bearing. It makes a droning noise from around 40mph which goes away when i steer sharp right but comes back when i steer left.
Any idea on how much a bearing replacement would cost?
Is it a DIY job or do you need a press to get the bearing out?

Before you go changing bearings fully investigate that it could be simply tyre noise.
I have changed noisy bearings before only to find it was tyres all along.
Some tread patterns just don't suit the dynamics of the car and certain road surfaces.

I've just had the f/o/s wheel bearing done on my XJR just the same as the XKR

I'm glad I didn't bother myself, it was a right Bu**er to get out

Seeing as you are West London give TLJaguar RG40-4TS a ring 0118-976-2899

This is not an easy job. You need a special socket to fit the strangely shaped nut on the back of the halfshaft. You then need to press the bearing out of the housing.

Ok; the warnings: We now routinely fit a new nut to anything over 8 years old because we have so many problems trying to get the old nut off; even with the proper tool.

To get the hub assembly in the press you have to remove both the brake disc shield and the ABS sensor. The shield is held on by Tor-X screws that rust and simply chew when you try to remove them. You will have to cut the heads off and then drill them out.

The ABS sensors rust in solid and you have to destroy them to get them out. They are a scandalous £160 each.

On the last one we did the press went to over 23 tons before it came out of the hub!

Best of luck!
