There is a grumbling noise coming from the sopercharger on my '98 XJR.The car has done 177k. Is it recommended to change the oil in the supercharger? Any thoughts guys?

Most of them made a bit of noise. Without hearing it, impossible to tell if normal.
To save any further costs, get it checked/listened to by someone who knows.
Sorry can't offer anything more
Can you hear it in the car with the bonnet closed ? Or can you only hear it at idle with bonnet open ?

When mine did this (some years ago) it sounded like the supercharger, but was actually the water pump - check that first, especially with your mileage.

Thanks guys, I can only hear it with the bonnet up, I've changed the waterpump last month !
The best idea is to haver a specialist listen to it I agree, it's just that I've read somewhere that it pays to change the supercgharger oil now and again. Anyone know what type of oil and how this is done?

Yes he should have said cubic inches, not cubic feet but the rest is interesting stuff.

Your noise could be the coupling.
