Front parking sensors

Can these be switched on when parking but not in reverse gear? I struggle to see the bonnet so parking upto a wall etc is guess work!

My new XF has a button on the roof console.

Ah yes, button above my head does this. I had thought that button was just to turn the sensors off but it does turn the front ones on when in 1st gear.
