New (to me) XKR
Discussion
After lurking around here and considering other options I've finally made the plunge and pick up a 2010 XKR on Saturday.
The Z4 Coupe will be going and replaced by this. Z4 was a lovely car but time for a change.

And the most pleasant surprise so far...... insurance!! It's costing me £30 a year more for the XKR over the Z4!

I do wonder if grey would have been a better option, black looks lovely but it shows all the dirt. At present I'm washing the car twice a week, I hate washing cars!
I also didn't want the wood interior, the dealership changed mine from walnut to piano black prior to collection. Much better.
The best thing about the car.......ENGINE NOISE! It's modest around town but the growl under medium to hard acceleration is incredible.

Has the dealer still got the walnut pieces? I'm looking for an XKR and want walnut but most have the ali dash.I also didn't want the wood interior, the dealership changed mine from walnut to piano black prior to collection. Much better.

I doubt it, the dealer was Hatfields in Liverpool. I strongly suspect that they just swapped the walnut with another XKR they had in which had Piano Black trim! I believe there is a company in London who will use your existing trim and high gloss it in your choice of colour or put a carbon fibre finish on if that's your thing. The cost is over £500 though.
Perhaps somebody might be willing to swap trims with you?

I like that colour, what is it? throughout my meticulous search I didn't see any blue or red XKR's.
Fuse 19 will be the exhaust valves which open up at circa 3,000+RPM. Pulling it out leaves the valves open the whole time. That colour is Spectrum Blue. Quite rare as a bit more "out there" so more likely to have been a factory order as opposed to buying from dealer stock.
It also has the chrome bonnet vents which are a great addition as it really highlights the vents to mark it out as an "R" more easily from the front.

Fit spires front section and remove fuse 19 -really sounds good for reasonable outlay !!
How much to do this?Im in the market for an XKR but unsure whether to go for 4.2 or 5.0, if i go for a 4.2 I was thinking doing an upgrade such as charger pulley, exhaust and maybe a re-map. However my concern is the extra noise and boom from an exhaust that makes a lovely noise when pottering around town and getting away sharply but what are they like on long cruises and motorways when "forging on". Would hate to spend a small fortune on a nice exhaust only to wanting to change it afer a short period due to the drone or booming given off on a long journey.
My other alternative is just to sit and wait till i have saved that little bit extra and stretch to a 5.0, which has the added power and hopefully an exhaust that sounds good around town but quiet as a lamb in the cabin, when at speed.

Yes, there's some interesting architecture around.
That's my '99 Daytona 955i and GS Adventure in the background.
Came from a Z4 Coupe so nearly twice the BHP now.
The power is addictive and something to be respected. Got it a bit out of shape the first roundabout I came to as I floored it to get out in front of traffic already on it. Note to self, you don't need to floor it pull away quickly, it's fast enough.
Averaged about 20mpg over the weekend on a wide mix of roads.
Comfort, power, handling, toys all so far what I'd hoped for. Sadly it's now in an airport car park for the week. Looking forward to next weekend.
