Decided on another XKR!
Discussion
Well 5 weeks ago I sold my 2011 xkr 5.0 with a view to getting a 997 turbo PDK.
Test drove a PDK this weekend, and it was a great car, but just doesn't feel special like my old xkr did!
I have spent the weekend wondering why I sold the XK! In a nutshell the 997 would cost 75k for a 2010, and looking at the jag website I can buy a 2011 xkr for 30k less!
I have considered an xkr-s but the only decent priced one at 64k is blue which in my opinion looks a bit hairdresserish!
So looks like I will be buying another 2011 car which will mean I have exactly the same car as before!
Just can't think of anything which would suit my desires/ requirements as much as the XK.
Just wish I had been happy with what I'd got, and saved all the hassle!

Was your old XKR the "old" 11 model year shape? If so, a newer 12 model year could be quite a different proposition as you can add a lot of the XKR-S bits to a normal XKR, I.e: the performance exhaust, speed pack (aero kit and higher top speed - admittedly available towards the end of the 11 model year), dynamic pack (XKR-S lowered and re-tuned adaptive dynamics with the aluminium suspension components and Vulcan alloys), and the fantastic performance seats.
I also think the facelift looks much sharper too:

Hi
My old car was white with black kalimnos alloys, speed pack and black pack.
It had the aerodynamic kit.
It was one of the ex jaguar cars with the OE registration, but was just before the facelifted model ie it had the vertical side vents and not the horizontal ones.
What changes were made on the facelifted model from mid 2012 onwards? Was it just the lights and side vents?

Very interesting! I'm in a PDK 997.2 S Cab after 3 XKR's. I have to say the XKR-S is the only thing that would tempt me, but when I climb back in my 911, I feel that the Jag has a lot of catching up to do. From the interior, to the usability & power delivery, you can't beat a n/a engine Porka. The Jag does make me grin though!
Go for an XKR-S, that French R Blue does suit the car very much, as does the white.

Looking at your profile it would seem that your 3 XKR's were the old 4.0 and 4.2's. have you driven a 5.0? It really is a different car. Not just in terms of power, but interior quality and levels of standard kit too.Go for an XKR-S, that French R Blue does suit the car very much, as does the white.
I used to sell the whole range of sports and super cars in my past (right up to SLR's & Veyrons etc) so have driven all the competition and have also done a Jaguar organised back to back comparison test day against a PDK 997 Carrera 2 S and it really was an interesting outcome. The Porsche was quicker off the line due to the extra traction with having the engine over the driven wheels, but from about 30mph on the XKR walked away from it. The XKR just feels like a more complete package now with the huge grunt if the 5.0 s/c engine and the improved handling with the adaptive dynamics with the bonus of all the extra standard kit. I also managed to get about 175mph out of a non speed packed car too.... (GPS data logging kit, not speedo).
I have got a ride and drive day this Friday at the Denham golf club near Uxbridge where we will have XFR's, XKR-S, XJ Supersport etc, if anyone is seriously interested in giving one a go I might be able to free up a slot or two..... Just email me through my profile.

So do you reckon I should have been considering a n/a 997 rather than the turbo?
Something like a c4s PDK cab?
The jags just seem such good value currently and I just couldn't see the 30k difference between the turbo 997 and the XK!
If you don't go for a Turbo, the price comparison between an 5.0 XKR and a 997 S is much closer to give you a better comparison. The good option would be a 997 GTS Cabrio. It has the RS high output engine, mated to the C4S wide body, through in a manual or PDK gearbox, chop the roof off to enjoy the sports exhaust and I'd say it would be worth a look.Something like a c4s PDK cab?

The Porsche will retain better residuals due to higher demand over the Jag, especially with the F-Typp due in the Spring. A GTS was about £85k new and after 2 years is nowabout £65k. The XKR-S is also in the mid-60k's, but was £100k 12 months ago!
Go enjoy the research & report back!

I have and love the 5.0, but fancied a change. i still lust over an XKR-S and the F-Type is just gorge! ( If too pricey IMHO
)My Friend bought a PDK C4 Cab brand new 2 years ago, with all the options nearly £100k. He has done less then 15'000 miles and not one Porsche dealer will offer him more then £38k!!!! I dont believe the BS that the German cars hold their value very well.... Lovely Car though, heres a picture of it..

OP - if you fancy and XKR-S but don't like the price or the blue colour (I'm offended
), my old car is up for sale at a touch over £50k. It's a Black 2011, '12 model year (facelift) car, 10k miles and is spec'd to within a whisker of an R-S, specifically:
Dynamic Pack (it has exactly the same upgrade chassis settings and wheels as my XKR-S and was a £7k option)
Factory performance active exhaust
Speed Pack
Performance Seats
+ a whole host of other niceties
With this spec, it should now lose much less than an equivalent standard XKR and apart from cosmetics and 50ish BHP, it's an XKR-S in all but name!
Some pics....

I had a Gen-2 997 Turbo a couple of years ago and it was probably the most capable and well engineered car I've experienced. However I strangely didn't like it that much although mine was a manual and I always really hankered after a PDK....which was a lot rarer within my budget back then as they'd only just been launched.
Whilst my XKR-S (and XKR before) is nowhere near as technically perfect as the Porsche, I think it's got a lot more character and, being the much more challenging car to drive fast, it keeps me entertained for longer. Honestly, the Porsche was just too good but felt very clinical whereas the Jaguar feels more special. On your test drive, did you think the Turbo felt a lot faster than your XKR was? I ask because my memory of my Porsche was that it felt sickeningly fast but I'm not actually sure if it was actually an quicker as the Jaguar is a lot smoother.
ETA....this is not an advert! The car is for sale at my local dealer Sturgess Leicester....or at least it was last week!

Well the Xkr I just sold cost me 52k in January this year with 4k on the clock. Bought it from HAFox in Guildford.
I kept it 10 months and sold it privately for 49k with 9k on the clock.
My friend bought a 2009 DBS for 87k at the same time and he just accepted 72k for it!
Lovely as the DBS was, even he admitted the jag was better to drive!
