I know amongst many this will result in shakes of the head in disapproval....

I've got a XJR6 which after some musing and a look at the way of the world and the market atm I have decided to keep.

I know it's a Jag and it's supposed to be quiet but if i'm getting 15mpg and want to bloody hear it! So what can i do (reversible) to the existing system to let it sing?

Would sleeving the last two boxes be enough or would i need to do the centre ones too?

I would be looking at buying a second system to play with so the car can always be returned to "stock"

I had cat back stainless systems on my X300 manual and XJR6 - Blueflame if I recall. The cars sounded great, not obnoxiously loud. I've also got one in my X308 XJR which sounds good.

Stick on a K&N panel filter whilst you are at it for a little more induction noise.

I had an XJ8 rather than XJR6. But I got excellent results from replacing the 2 back boxes with straight through pipes of slightly larger diameter. The exhaust tips were sourced from an XK of the same vintage. There was no need to touch the centre box.

I reverted to standard in the end since it was my daily driver and I didn't like having a lot of noise in built up areas, either for myself or for others. But on a twisty country road the sound was just epic. It seemed to release a few more horses too (though I might have imagined it).

I have been tempted to tweak with my xkr to give more sound, However each time i do i give the stag a blast.......

That gets it out of my system to enjoy the the xkr refinements.

Interesting. My first move was going to be to remove the rear boxes and see what it sounds like. I've found a pair of second hand boxes on fleabay to "convert" to straight through for 20 quid.
