'09 XFR with 75k on the clock...madness?

If you are happy with the price and the history buy it. Mileage is not an issue for these. I have a XKR 58 reg and its been the lowest cost car to run I have owned in years. Tyres last 20k and budget on £900 for a set, annual servicing £350 at main dealer, brakes last well and the cars are bomb proof... Fuel consumption is great for a car with this power 20-28mpg average... Compared to BMW / Mercedes I own and used to own the Jag running costs are half. Apart from Fuel by wifes recent diesel X3 costs more to keep on the road...

Our XF 3.0D which we owned from new mirrored the What Car, Which? Etc comments - was pretty good for the first 20k miles (apart from the electric window known issue), but then got steadily worse and worse with lots of the common faults - sat nav and stereo stopped working, battery issue (control module I think), door locking issues, glovebox solenoid fault, parking brake fault messages, headlight bulbs only lasting 2-3 months, second set of rear brake pads only lasted months. To be fair it did do 20k pa and had done around 55k miles before we terminated the lease early owing to unacceptable number of faults, but had we only owned it for 20k miles (ie done a lower annual mileage) our experience would've been somewhat different, however as the What Car, Which? data suggests new XFs are pretty good reliability wise however once they get to circa 3 years old they have fallen way behind other cars in that segment.
In general very reliable. look at the forums,there are very few with problems. I've had my 98 XKR for 8 years with little go wrong , added a 4.2 S type (soon to be 8 years old) as a four seater and daily runner. Engines are bullet proof if looked after and easily good for 200K + miles. Buy and enjoy

To be fair the XF was a good drive - nimbler than the 640d which we replaced it with, and most of the issues we had were of an electrical nature which appears to be the Achilles heel of JLR, but the more miles we put on it the more unreliable it became, and from what I've read I'm not the only one to experience this. Several friends have been considering an XF (everyone who saw ours or had a lift in it really liked it) and asked me what i thought but I had no option but to advise them not to, based on our experiences. The XFR does make an epic noise though!

It does appear to be mixed though. For balance, my 2011 car (3.0D) was faultless. 42k miles in 20 months, no faults to report. I changed it as I was spending far too much time towing, and needed something more practical. Perhaps as time went on Jaguar sorted out the gremlins, meaning the later 1st generation and current ones are better.
I miss it. Replaced with a BMW X3 which I hoped would grow on me. It hasn't.
My brother has a XF 3.0d 275bhp with circa 30k on the clokc, his has needed attnetion.
Mine is a 2.7d with 120k, it sometimes doesn't start on the button and rattles a bit but considering the mileage (30k pa) it's a good car.
I'd buy that car, if you don't do many miles it'll soon even out I'm sure.
A cheaper optino would be a Vaux VXR8 but the interior is no match for the Jag.
