I NEED AN XJ6!!
Discussion
my advice would be to try and sell the subaru separately. then us the money to buy a good xj40. its unlikely the person wanting to buy a subaru will have the absolute best 40 you can get for that money
there are still good ones around, but lots of bad ones too, so choose wisely otherwise you have a huge money-pit. best choice is usually a higher spec car, sovereign, daimler, or xjr, with a 4.0 lump. they are nearly all autos (though you could buy a manual like i do)

Would an XJ8 do?
My father passed away last Monday, and we'll have a 3.2 for sale soon. It's a 2000 model, and was kitted out to look like an XJR. He spent thousands on it in the 5 years he had it, and it runs very well, apart from a couple of rear suspension knocks.
As far as I know, the tensioners are done, just had the heads rebuilt due to an overheat caused by a dodgy thermostat I believe. That was also an engine out job due to a problem with a sheared stud. Also has had new coil packs, injectors, and a recon gearbox & torque cconverter.
We're trying to locate all it's history, but I reckon it's had £10k thrown at it in the last few years.

Probably best to get a '40 as a second car rather than the main driver I think, if you keep the miles down classic insurance is very cheap.
As said above, you may as well look out for late, a top spec 4.0L unless something comes up that is particular good and cheap. I've a rare manual variant, more fun behind the wheel but good ones are hard to find.
They are getting into retro classic car territory now so can require some fettling to maintain, are you handy with the spanners?

I'm something of an XJ40 fan and prefer those to the '300, both lovely rides though. A well kept '40 will be better than a neglected '300 of course, it's all down to getting a decently maintained one now they are the age they are. On average the electricals are probably a bit more reliable on the '300, the mechanicals are very similar really.
The rule is pretty much anything over 15 years old can be insured on a classic policy, generally you need to be 25+ years old. XJ's are cheap to cover, you can do it for less than £200 fully comp depending on your circumstances obviously.

Jaguar don't have the service records - they have only a record of the supplying dealer and name of the first owner, and maybe the second owner.IAN ( WREXHAM)
You don't actually need this information from Jaguar. If you take your receipts to the Jaguar dealer which serviced the car (and can find a replacement service book) that dealer will be happy to stamp the book for you. They will be able to check the authenticity of the service receipts.
To be honest though, I'm not sure you need the stamped service book to prove the car's service history if you still have all the receipts. I would have thought most people would be more impressed by the actual service receipts than the stamped service book.
The part number of the X300 replacement service book is JJM101799/70. I think you could struggle to find one now, unfortunately. It may well be Jaguar still stock the replacement service book for the X308 though. It is certainly worth asking. They do come up on Ebay from time to time, but time isn't on your side with this one, since you're selling it.

Would only use the jag during the summer months and keep the scoob for the winter.Would an early x300 be a better bet and can you still insure them on a classic policy?
