Replacement key for 2003 X-type?
Discussion
Buy a blank for a tenner on eBay then get it cut using the key number from the tag (if you still have it).
Simply pop the button fob onto the blank and job's a good un
(I think)
If it's the fob which is dead then change the batteries or buy a used/ebay new cheap Ford fob and program to the car (I did this)

Ah, in which case a key cutting place should be able to match the blank from your original.
You can even read the code yourself to order online:

One further question...
The way i understand it, i can reprogramme my new key fob, but i assume the stolen one will continue to work, or is there a maximum of two key fobs that can be attached to the car?
I guess even if only MY two fobs work, the stolen key will still allow the thief to take the car away.
Or is the actual key somehow matched to the fob so that it will not be recognised?

I might be remembering wrong but I think when you add a new key fob, they all need to be present. The way i understand it, i can reprogramme my new key fob, but i assume the stolen one will continue to work, or is there a maximum of two key fobs that can be attached to the car?

IIRC when I did mine, you turn the key in the ignition a few times, the car then beeps and you press a button on each key fob to pair it with the car. Any fobs that you don't do are forgotten!
This should mean that you can disable the stolen fob. The key will still unlock the door, but they won't be able to disable the alarm/immobilizer.
ETA:
Here are the instructions I used to add a fob to mine, I bought the fob on ebay for about £10, so if you can get a blank key cut, you should be good to go.
