As far as I know, they are a monocoque...?

I don't think they're a monocoque in the true sense of the term, but equally, they don't have a separate chassis.
But we must presume that the OP is referring to the floorpan, drivetrain diagrams, etc.
monocoque meaning "single shell"..
mono, greek = single/one
coque, French = shell
You saying "its not a true monocoque" I dont mind, but the laughing face, thats got my hackles up.
on a further note, how cna it not be a true monocoque?
Thanks gents. As far as I am aware they are an evolution of the XJS which I believe is a floor pan with an under structure or chassis. Whereas the latest XK is a new design which is semi monocoque from the bulkhead back.
I'm looking for a photo or diagram of basically an XK or even an XJS sans body shell.

You have to go a long way back to find a Jaguar with a chassis (early XK's and Mk 7,8,9's) Yes, the X100 was derived from the XJS and on the XJS Cabriolet (I still have one) there is a strengthening frame under the rear between the integral (fully welded to the floorpan) chassis legs and the boot floor - but is a monocoque. The convertible had similar systems. The X100 is indeed a monocoque with front and rear subframes bolted to the (again integral) chassis rails. For the benefit of the OP if you google jaguar XJ suspension (even the earler Series 1,2 and 3 saloons had the same system) you should find some schematics.

Thanks. I'd been beginning to think it used subframes from seeing various kit car sites.
This seems to use the whole floor pan: http://www.xk180.com/
As the XK has a 102 wheelspan I was wondering if it could be used as the base for a project.
Do the Beechams use the whole floorpan as well?

I think that Paul Banham actually chops a bit out of the XJS floorpan for the '180' His work is very well known and he is very well respected and has produced many stunning conversions over the years. Best to contact him and discuss your requirements - I'm sure he can answer any query you might have (and a great many besides)
