Disappointing Warranty from Jaguar
Discussion
Phoned Jaguar Coventry about a used XJ. They said that, since the car is over 7 years old and high mileage, they will only give a 3 month warranty. I find that strange, as BMW offer a 1 year warranty on all their used cars, irrespective of mileage and age.
I have mainly owned BMWs and will consider a 7 series now as opposed to the XJ, mainly based on the better warranty.
Any views?

Mercedes dealers offer a one year warrenty, but then when you get in to the detail the warrenty is not actually by Mercedes Benz themselves but a third party insurance firm, where upon requiring warrenty work you have to pay for it up front and then recover the payment. Also depending on the mileage they may only cover you for 90%, 80% etc of the cost of the repair work. So dont go to thinking that you can drop off your car like a new one and tell them to fix what ever problem you may have. In some cases I have heard that some use warrenty direct as well so just be careful and investigate if you are getting a genuine Factory warrenty, because I dont think any one does at that age/mileage of car. I was quoted about 600£ for an aftermarket warrenty on an XJD
Definitely the mileage. I've just bought an XJR on an 07 plate with only 39k miles on the clock. Came fully Jaguar approved with a full fat Jaguar 1 year warranty. They can offer this on cars up to 10 years old but I believe it has to be low ish mileage and have a full uninterrupted Jag service history.
I'm surprised that it's on their forecourt tbh. Audi and BMW won't let anything over 70k miles on the forecourt, and just gets traded out.
Also I'm not overly impressed with Guy Salmon at Cov. Can't see me taking the XF back there. The last time it was there, they brought it back to work for me, but somehow took the trouble to reset the "last-journey" mpg.

That is truly awful. Did you try for compensation?Guy Salmon, are part of the Sytner Group take after sales very seriously. If you have a problem, get on the Sytner website and find the director for your area, write to him, via email, and watch the wheels set in motion. I can only speak from experience but even though I bought a 5 year old car from the Group I was looked after very well indeed when my car started developing problems. I would reccommend Guy Salmon, Thames Ditton. After serveral years of Beemers I found Jaguar, both the car and the company refreshingly honest and attentive.
