what car thread, Jag XJ6/8 or S Type?
Discussion
Can't seem to decide.. I am looking to get a comfortable auto due to a back disability.
My choices have come down to:
A. Jaguar XJ8 3.2 (or maybe XJ6) - '96! on >
B. Jaguar S Type preferably the 3L V6
Pros & cons for either please? I'm aware of the Nicasil issue with the XJ & cam tensioner. Anything else..apart from age related rust?
And the S Type, gearbox issues?
My heart wants the XJ.. budget up to 2k.
Thanks

Two grand will buy you either a very good X300 or a reasonable X308. Secret to buying either will be finding a well maintained one. 100k plus mileage is not usually a problem with the 6 cyl cars but it can be with the V8 if it's been neglected or abused.
Running costs - MPG, spares, tyres, insurance of both are similar.
Ive had two 3.2 sixes and two 3.2 V8s and ran them all past 100k with no problems. IMO the V8 engined XJs are a much nicer car to drive, are considerably more refined and have significantly better real world performance than the equivalent capacity 6 cyl ones.
