Tyre size on an XJR

The standard tyre size for an XJR is 255 40 18. My car has just failed it's MOT on both rear tyres, inner sides being perished. There are cracks all over them. They were new pirellis fitted last year and have loads of tread on them. I use the car daily so can't understand why they are in this state. Anyway, I digress.

I have a pair of new 255 35 18 Federal R-SR tyres in the garage which were for the TVR, but aren't needed at present. I am wondering if they would work on the XJR, or would they change the rolling radius to such an extent to cause ABS/Traction/Suspension problems?

You are looking at just under 4% differance

Could set off the traction, I know that differance sets it off on my XKR

Thanks. Think I'll have to bite the bullet and replace them with some 255 40 18 Avon ZZ3's.

i have the Avons on the front of mine, and definetely reduced the tramlining effect i had on the previous Pzero rosso and the Proxes i had before!

Ive had ZZ3's on mine for a while and when it came to replacements some6 months back i replaced with ZZ5's which are their successors. Been good up to now as were the 3's.
I did opt for 245's on the frontto eliminate a bit more tramlining with no detremental effect on handling.
One suggestion would be to get the tracking/4 wheel alignment done if the tyres were wearing unevenly and check rear bushes.
Incidentally, i think i paid about £140 inc fitting for the 255 18 ZZ5's.

Could you tell me where you got them from, I can only find 245 45 18 in the ZZ5's? Camskill are doing the 255 40 18 ZZ3's for £127 delivered.
