Hi all, recently bought an 06 Type R which I love however the alarm started going off randomly day or night with no real set of circumstances, after going off the car would not lock off the fob sounding the horn twice.
After leaving the car overnight it would then be back to normal for a week or so then do it again, now its showing on the dash as rear passenger door open and its doing it far more frequently every other day now and my neighbours will be organising a lynch mob soon. Im leaning towards the locking motor ??? Is this possibly the cause and maybe a swap would cure it ??
John.

On a similar note I have a 2009 XF and the alarm has recently developed a mind of it's own. I fear my neighbours will have it towed soon. I've now resorted to leaving it unlocked 24/7 but it still goes off.

About the XF, there are vehicle settings that will automatically arm the car (if no key is inside) after a while. They are labelled a bit cryptic even with manual. I would fist try to check those to see if it makes a difference.

On one of my previous cars (not a Jag) I eventually asked the garage to turn it off all together when I brought it in for a service. I assume that this will be possible on most cars, but you will need the proper diagnostic computer to do so.

Could be a door switch thats a bit faulty. Maybe loose contacts. I know the XJ has a habit of setting the alarm off when the underbonnet switch gets a bit manky. Fix for that one is to just short the sensor with a bit of wire.

If you know which sensor is setting it off (rear door) see if you can access the door switch - if you can then pop it out and just short it out with a bit of wire so it shows as closed permanently. If that solves it then replace the switch.

Worth a go.

ETA: if its a real problem with the neighbours you will probably want to pull every door bonnet and boot switch and short them all. If the problem goes away then undo each short one at a time until the problem comes back.

Also check that you dont have anything dangling inside the car - coathanger in the back, air freshener etc. as they can set it off.
