s type 4.2 should I or not

hi all, thinking of adding a nice ?? s type to my drive (lol) sounds a genuine car, 2007 full history etc etc.
any known issues I should look for ? its 52k private sale. Not really sure what I should be paying 7k ish sound right to those who know ? oh and she is black with cream leather and not the R, all views welcomed, many thanks

Had my S-Type 4.2 V8 SE since February 2004. Was a demonstrator with 14 miles on it. It now has over 120,000. No plans to part with it, so I guess I like it! I have sometimes considered an R but the running costs are much higher, apparently, so I've happily kept my non R: 300BHP is enough for me anyway.
Obviously do a thorough check for everything as with any car. My main experiences etc are as follows.
Main issues were with the gearbox but not had any serious issues with that since around 60,000.
Gearbox is sealed for life but oil should be changed every 50,000 miles or so. I've done so.
The diff is also sealed for life but the oil should be changed after 75,000 or so miles, but I haven't done so; my diff seems to be OK.
Heavy car so ensure steering, brakes and suspension are all in good order.
Pirelli P6000 tyres cost around £160 each and seem to last for around 30,000 miles.
The heater header tank is a known issue: they split. The problem can be getting a replacement because Jaguar make them infrequetly. Check that the aircon and heating are all OK.
Suspension ball joints front and rear come as an assembled unit and are expensive, around £500 plus labour I think, so check out there's no problems there.
I have a spreadsheet showing all service history, and I could e-mail this to you if you wished.

The car I had needed new wheel bearings and suspension rubbers at around 70k. Not cheap items to replace, so worth checking them out and factoring into the price. The other wear item will be the front discs.
It is a nice car though, so worth the investment. Just remember that although the price is relatively cheap, the running costs aren't!

I do agree the S-Type is a good car, just a shame on the retro styling, ( that keeps the price LOW )As Inkster says, the XJ is a good fast comfortable car and handles a lot better than the looks suggest
