Hi all,

My XJR-s is going in for a full respray tomorrow - I'm planning on doing a video diary of the work so if anyone's interested then feel free to take a mooch.

The first video (made tonight) is up on Youtube, and can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd5e9l3MTkQ

Cheers,

Danny.

Just realised I posted this and didn't update it - apologies, I lost track amid forum hopping.

Predictably it turned into a bigger job than planned when the paint started to come off and the bodyshop started digging around the wheel arches. Lots of evidence of previous bodywork done on the cheap, filler and fibreglass all over the place.

The budget was a bit of an issue as I've got a wedding to pay for next year, but the job ended up costing double the initial estimate, as I wanted any repairs to be done right. Inner sills and panels were plated where corrosion was found, and I bought new sills and rear 3/4 panels to allow proper replacement of bad areas.

There's a video of the work in progress (please excuse the background noise): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6f0Ffm3OLo

I've got the car back now, and overall I'm very happy with the result, it looks a million times more presentable than when it went in. I'm waiting a few months, and then sending it in for a proper detail, which will hopefully make it come up gleaming! The only fly in the ointment is the ABS was dead when I got the car back, a bit of investigation has found the wiring loom has been melted around the passenger side rear wheel arch - I have photos from the bodyshop showing the work in progress and the loom is clearly pulled to one side out of the way, but I can only assume it's not been far enough from the welding heat. It's fixed now, so I'm looking forward to getting home from work in a week or so and getting out and about before winter truly arrives, weather permitting.

Ok, apologies for the lateness of the update, the respray was finished and I picked the car up in early September, with no working ABS. Turns out when fitting new splash plates behind the front wheels the body shop had accidentally put a screw through the wiring loom. Doh! Anyhow, by the time this was all sorted the winter had arrived, so the car has sat in the garage. With a few sunny days recently it came out to play and have some Simply Performance bypass pipes fitted to get rid of the first silencers and give the exhaust a bit more rumble.

Then last night disaster struck! I'd had it waxed that afternoon, and was backing off the drive to go for a family meal, 'she who must be obeyed' beside me and the little dude in his baby seat in the back, when with a sickening crunch one of the neighbours reverses their Peugeot into my driver's door. I can't describe how gutted I was!

Anyhow, I've put up two videos today, one showing the 'finished' car (complete with dented door...) and one giving an idea of the sound of the exhaust with the first silencers removed - it's only done on a camcorder so the sound isn't perfect, but I think you get the idea.

So now I'm hunting down a new driver's door. Joy!
