xk8 convertible one rear
Discussion
Sounds like the rear window regulator has gone. I recently did this job myself. Bought the part from Jaguar direct (cost approx £260 inc vat ish I think)
My broken one (I removed the actual glass to reuse):

A new one (comes without the glass from Jaguar):

If you take it to Jaguar or an indie, it requires removing the roof to do the job. ££££££
I found some very comprehensive instructions from a Jag forum and there is a way to do it without removing roof.
Where are you based? I'm in London and could explain the pitfalls to you. It's mainly a one man job until you need to actually take out the regulator and then when you need to replace it.

How handy are you with a spanner? Do you want me to send you the pdf of the removal/refitting instructions?I spoke to my mechanic (John from North London Jaguars) who a top chap and he recommended not going down the route of using a second hand regulator as they do have a tendency to break.
If you're not up for doing the job yourself I could have a look on the Jag forums for a recommended specialist in West Sussex region.
