Can't help with a specialist closer to you than Design XKR in Andover 01264 333523.
They did my S Type R's gearbox oil change. A good service, but an even more impressive price! (cheap)

I just looked at the XKR Design website, looks like they fill with dextron III, unless you specifically ask for the jag oil.
Dextron 3 is the wrong oil. http://www.designxkr.co.uk/service_xk_autobox.htm

5 speed ZF oil should be Esso LT71141 or jag pt no. JLM20237
6 speed ZF oil should be Shell M1375.4 or jag pt number C2C 8432

Now it might be the case that you can use dextron 3 but it will need changing more often as it doesnt have the longer life capability of the proper oil. But I cant see anyone from ZF confirming this, as they will want you to uses their oil.

Also given that there is always some left in the torque converter when you do a change, unless you do a fill-run-drain-fill-run-drain, (flush) Does anyone know if its safe to mix the two oils.

Dextron 3 is about £5 per litre retail, the propper 6 speed jaguar/Shell/ZF oil is more like £15-£30 depending on where you get it.

Cheapest I found was £15 and its the generic ZF Lifeguard (as ZF make the box, I'm sure they can make the right oil for it), But actuall Jaguar Branded bottles start at £27 ish.

FYI we do not use Dextron 3 now that we do the the oil change ourselves. The correct oil for the specific gearbox is used.

I'm just about to get my 'box oil changed before collecting the 2007 XJR 4.2 portfolio (100k miles).

It's about 210 extra quid (bringing the total to close to 800 at the main dealer!) if I get the pan inc filter changed too. The guy is saying it's probably not necessary to even change the oil (though he understands why I'm doing it) and says the filter would be overkill.

Seems like a no brainer to me to have the filter done but it's not an insignificant amount of cash so worth considering skimping?

My advice would be to do the lot. The marginal extra cost is peanuts compared to the cost of gearbox failure. I certainly felt the difference when I had mine done
