I've had a problem with my battery draining and had it diagnosed the body control module. Have been told this is going to be costly and so far looking at £800 - £900 to get it sorted. Does anyone have any advice for me?

The car is a 1999 Jaguar XJ8 3.2 and I live in Devon.

The Grange in Exeter says they need to plug it in to know the part number.

Ebay throws up a few, perhaps:

Also try breakersyard.com. I've used them a few times with no trouble.

Also it seems it's 'do-able' DIY:

You could just take the old one out to find that, or even a parts sticker in the boot for those things
Maybe have to plug it in to get it to Talk to the ECU etc, but not a £800 job

Best to give Berks Jags a call, they will tell you what neads to be done, verry friendly

I've changed a body procesor and an ECU in my XKR with no problems

I had a recon ABS unit from them a number of years back. They couldn't have been more helpful. I'd recommend them too.

They would do. Had a dead radio that needed a code. The Swindon dealers (Grange) told me that it needed plugging-in to the Magic Box for £60! Got the code from Jag customer services. They were very helpful, too. Seems it's only dealerships that like to dump on their customers.

Best of luck.

Berks Jags suggested it might not be the BCM and that I have a Jaguar specialist check it rather than the mobile chappy.
