Anyone had problems with these? I was down at MDM in Coalville on Friday and it was commented that the engine sounded slightly tappety, I cant say I had noticed, but now its been said Im concerned. Are the tappets even adjustable? I thought they were hydraulic.

V8 tappets are not hydraulic. You may need an oil change if the engine has been filled with a mineral oil that has lost it's hot viscosity over time or the noise may simply be normal injector firing.

Change the oil for a good quality proper synthetic and see if that makes a difference.

But there is variable valve timing on the N/A engine, and the lifters are not hydraulic? Anyway its having the oil changed now so I can be sure its the proper stuff. It has only just been serviced apparantly at North West XJ (Jagman), so if the oil is incorrect I shall want to know the reason why.

The injectors on these engines can sound like the faint clacking of tappets? The noise is coming from both banks so perhaps it is this then.
