is the s type 4.2 r worth buying
Discussion
Love mine and it's the same vintage. Had a n/a 4.2 before which was excellent but this thing just has a little......more!
Can waft with the best of them but a howling dervish when asked. Nothing (yet) too spooky on costs and at this kind of cash hard to beat.
Did consider a similar vintage E55 but that was another £5k to purchase and scope for proper bills if it misbehaved.

Do you happen to waft round the Frome area at all?
Thanks! Yes I do, usually passing through but it's a regular visitor. There are a few S Types around in the same colour, I couldn't resist slapping this on it just for fun!
Do you happen to waft round the Frome area at all? I think any sub £5k STR is worth a look and they seem to cope with the miles. You'll know as soon as you drive it if it's a good one!
Will every one stop posting about S Types and S Type Rs!
Im still mourning/ pining.
I seriously miss my car. I hope its new owner (also a PHer) will be able to bring her back to her former glory, (i ran out of cash)
My fault for buying a complete lemon, for good money.
In the time i had it (1 year 2 months) i had just one issue crop up, and that was the ignition barrel, which collapsed.
The issues it came with (which i didnt know about until i got it home, and stupidly didnt return it to the dealer) were:
OP, learn from my mistake and make sure you take your time and look at a few examples.
Get it done!

The issues it came with (which i didnt know about until i got it home, and stupidly didnt return it to the dealer) were:
- It had a catalytic converter fault for both banks of cats
- An airbag fault
- a nipple on the coolant expansion bottle had cracked and been repaired by the previous owner, which then split. My dad attempted to perform a further repair on it, which i thought held, but didnt.
- the plunger on the fuel cap had broken, me and my dad did an epic bodge on this which was much better than the oem plunger (which i was proud of
) - the headlight washer cover plate things were broken off.
- the front tyres were worn on the inside
OP, learn from my mistake and make sure you take your time and look at a few examples.

well I got her, drove 120 miles back home, looks like poss one of the best jags ive had yet to look at every mm of her but she so far looks and drives immac.full history interior is unmarked which is hard to believe as she has covered a tad over the average mileage. no rattles etc engine pulls like two trains lol will post some pics soon when stops raining. At worst a couple tyres in thousand miles and usual alloy re furb. smiling at the moment lol
