2011 5.0 XK - strange squeak/squeal noise from behind dash?

First of all, this is difficult because I've not heard myself. This is my dad's car and my mum describes the noise as like a windscreen wiper screeching on a dry screen. My dad wondered if it might be an electronic noise, but he's not so sure and he thinks it comes from behind the dash, maybe passenger side. He is going to try and capture on video next time if poss, but his warranty is just about to expire so wondered if anyone might have any ideas? He doesn't really use the car very often so it could take some time to reproduce .

The facts.

It has only happened when it's raining and when they have been on the motorway and the car is well up to temp( not to say these are definitely linked ). Last time they had been on the road for about an hour. They say they get this awful noise for about half a second, and then it continues intermittently for the rest of the journey. The next time they took it out, they we on the road for about an hour and it happened again. Typically jag can't recreate the noise, and numerous test drives haven't come up with anything even in torrential rain.

I went out yesterday for a good hour and half , and nothing .


Anyone any ideas or pointers as to what it might be, how I might recreate etc?? ( I realise it's a bit of a needle in a haystack!)

Drive belt?

That was my thoughts. My dad says definitely not a drive belt noise. He even thinks it might be some sort of electronics maybe. So difficult without hearing it. I bet I could work it out immediately. Just spoke to him and he doesn't even know how to take a photo with his phone let alone video it when it happens. god help me !!

We had similar from a 4.2 XK. Turned out to be a wet / loose connection in the alarm horn.

Worth getting his local dealer to check?
