Steering wheel controls

Please help.

I have a S-type and the steering wheel control buttons do not work. I'm getting nothing from them. I've replaced the buttons but to no avail. I'm struggling now.

Can anyone help me with this?

There is a part under the steering wheel like coiled spring, called a Cassette module

That's usually the fault

Once I've got the front of the steering wheel off, then do I need to replace the inside?

Is there any way I can test it is the cassette module?

The steering wheel has to be removed

It sits in the carrier that the headlights and wiper stalks hang onto

Now sure about testing it other than removing
