poss XKR purchase

I'm after a few sage words on the subject of buying either a 2001 4.0 XKR or a 2003 4.2 XKR, I'm reading that the earlier 4litre engine is better than the 4.2 ??????, I'm from a BMW background & know ziltch about Jags?.

Which model has a need for new timing chains & does the 4.2 really have a overheating problem??.

I don't know what you've been reading but the 4.2 is the better engine has has no problems
The earlier 4.0 potentially did, but they've probably been sorted by now

Stuart, When I say reading? it was from a dealers advert bestowing the virtues of his car with the 4 litre V8, most probably Boll**ks but I needed to know.

That sums it up pretty well.
I had a 2005 4.2 for a few years with no problems at all.
You won't be disappointed, even with a 4.0
