Jaguar XJ6 3.2 range / mpg / tank size fiasco.
Discussion
Bought the car with 1/4 tank and drove it 60 odd miles home, filled it up and it took about 11 gallons.
Did 282 miles and put in 10.3 gallons. 282/10.3 = 27.3 mpg
(On the basis that its supposed to be an 80ltr or 17.6 gallon tank I should run out at 27mpg * 17.6 gallons = 480 range.)
Refilled and reset trip, gauge said full and I saw fuel in the filler neck. I have covered 312 miles, so should have used 312/27 = 11.55 gallons used.
I ignored the red fuel low light at 270 miles as I thought the gauge was miles out.
Ran out.

How odd - and an unwelcome discovery that the damn thing should be replaced. Jaguar weren't exactly generous with the time allowance for the job, were they!
I didn't know the X300 only has an 80 litre fuel tank either. I assumed it wuold be the same size as the XJ40.
I think the tank got a little smaller as the efficiency had improved.I didn't know the X300 only has an 80 litre fuel tank either. I assumed it wuold be the same size as the XJ40.
Turned out not to be a tank issue, I think, I subsequently got 75 ltrs into it, there's a rochester valve I might change.
