For the past three years or so, my daily has been a 2020 XE P250SE R-Dynamic. I have been generally quite happy with it; it is a likeable thing and quite enjoyable to drive, and has been well-suited to the use to which it is put.

One of my gripes with the car is that the engine can at times be a gruff old lump, particularly at low road speeds as revs rise even modestly. It isn't helped by first gear (and to a degree, second) being so low. I am not as struck on the ZF8 as many other people seem to be (though the Jag box is better than the horrible thing in the Volvo S60 that preceded it for all of 5 months).

I have been considering the XF as a possible replacement, and wondered if anyone on here has experience of both the XE and XF with the Ingenium petrol engine and can comment on whether the XF is any better when it comes to refinement and noise suppression.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I haven't, but in the absence of any other reply I'll step in and suggest that a test drive might be the the best way to find out.

Used to sell them...some people (me included) could pick up on the XF having a quieter cabin but it is marginal, others could hear/feel no difference.

Best to find an XF local to you and drive it back2back with your XE to see if you can pick up on any differences.

Re ZF box, arguably the best autobox available, sadly let down in some cars by the mapping that that brand has signed off on - unfortunately Jag being one.
As you say it is better than the Aisin box in the Volvo however.

Happy shopping.
