Helloall,

My Daimler Super Eight has automatic transmission problems. I have had it looked at by a specialist and the issue appears to be the mechatronic unit on the transmission box. I have been advised that a new Jaguar unit is £3400 _ vat. I was posting here to see if anyone has experience of this issue and whether there is a cheaper alternative. By way of background the issue arose because the gear change started becoming jerky etc hence getting it looked at by a specialist.

Any thoughts would be very much welcome.

Hi, that has been done a few months ago. That is not the issue according to the specialist. It is the mechatronic unit and I have been advised that the only solution is a new one from Jaguar at a cost of £3,400 + vat.

Is your "specialist" a ZF gearbox specialist? I'm guessing not as I'm sure you don't want/need a new box. It is possible to sort the mechatronix control unit and swap but issues are usually related to the cable which can get water in it. I'd not trust mine to anyone other than a transmission specialist, there are plenty around the six speed box in our Jags as used in lots of cars.

Fairly sure that's a ZF 6HP26 used in there.

There are lots of repair parts available for these, without the Jaguar-dealer tax applied on top, eg, https://www.sussexautos.com/search?q=6hp&optio...

An auto transmission specialist is what you need, not a Jaguar specialist.

It was an automatic transmission specialist in Devon. As I say he's advised that the mechatronic unit needs other be replaced. Does anyone have any recommendations for a ZF specialist in Devon & Cornwall area? Thank you.
