Hey guys,

I've not been on the forums for a couple of months, and for a significant reason.

<big intake of breath>

I've crashed and written off my XJR. There, I've said it. I understand some of you may want to know the details, but I'd prefer not go get into that, at least not for now. No one was injured, thank God.

This happened early November last year. I've been coming to terms with it over the last couple of months, as I've never had a semi-major (in my own classification) accident like that before in my life, and of course, with the loss of my beloved car, which I've only owned for 6 months.

Anyway, enough with the sob-story! The insurance has paid out, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome of that, and I'm now after another XJR! I will confess I considered several other cars such as Audi S8 (slightly too expensive, and even though enough bhp, a bit slow of the mark - compared to the XJR at least, and not quite as cool - although still seriously so), BMW 540 (like everything about it, always liked the E39 series, the major drawback being nearly a 100bhp down on the XJR and not much lighter) and of course, the M5 (one and only drawback, still a little out of my financial reach - not buying one, but maintaining it). So, I've come back to the XJR as it satisfies most of my wants and needs in my price bracket. Just like the first time around! smile

This time, I'd LOVE to find an XJR-100. In fact, that's what I intend to try and do, spend a few months looking for one. I know this is not a WANTED section, but if anyone knows anyone selling one, please let me know!

I've missed this forum and you guys, but I found it very difficult to write this post. Now I have, I'm glad I'm back. smile

Sorry to hear about your incident, but glad you have sorted the claim and can start a fresh for the beginning of 2008. Most of us have been there, I wrote off my 3 month old S2000 having waited 6 months for it. It will make you a better driver as a result.

XJR100, is a gem. Good luck with the search, I'm sure it will be a long one!

How about a new aluminium XJR, they are sub £20k now?

Thank you for your very kind words of encouragement. Yes, that's the only positive thing I firmly believe I will take from this very unpleasant episode - a very valuable lesson.

Can't consider later generation because they're still over my budget, plus, I still prefer the look of the x308 over the x350. With the x308, I think they got it perfect, the x350 became a bit too rounded and tall, and lost that magic something the x308 has (at least in my eyes).

Hi Vladman,

What a disaster, but at least you're OK. I have only ever spotted one XJR100 and that's from time to time in and around Guildford. I have to say it doesn't seem to be looked after: it's tatty, dented etc. I guess the owner doesn't know what he has. Good luck with the search, and I suspect it'll be a while before we learn it's been successful.

A chap at work has one and it is immaculate! Truely gorgeous.

But as you rightly state, the XJR100 is the one to seek out.

Thanks guys! I see TWO XJR100s nearly every day on my commute to work in London. I almost feel like knocking on the drivers' windows and asking if they'd sell! Probably not the best approach though, especially with me being on my despatcher-looking motorbike! smile

mmmmmm lick XJR 100 - one of THE best looking cars of the last 20 years.

I'm still tempted to get another one, despite the frailties.
(If only they'd made a manual, and a coupe come to that).

I LOVED my Milans, and think they absolutely fantastic, they complement the understated and refined sportiness of the XJR. I also think they look better than those on the XJR-100 (Montreals?), but if I find an XJR-100, not sure swapping the original wheels would be good for re-sale value (a bit crazy, isn't it, thinking about resale value of the car I haven't even found to buy yet!).

Thanks for the offer anyway, you never know.

Now, one step at a time, and lets find one of them 100s... rolleyes

In the end, it doesn't absolutely have to be an XJR-100, the main reason why I want one of them isn't exclusivity, but the fact it combines all the optional bits and equipment I really like and want:

  • black leather
  • all-leather steering wheel and gear knob
  • premium audio
  • sunroof
  • brembo brakes
  • parking sensors
My previous XJR had all of those, minus the parking sensors and the all-leather steering wheel and gear-knob. Now, if I could find a very similar one... spin

Bad luck Vladman. I've not had a major off (touch wood) but I think it's a case of but for the grace of God go most of us.

Good to have you back, and best of luck with the search for the replacement.

Sorry to hear about the departure of your Jag - after reading you first posts about getting it sorted when you bought it - you must be gutted. I am debating flogging mine (see profile for pic) Silver 2002 XJR black leather, 42300 miles, after around £13.5k

I should get around to sticking adverts out...

I doubt it at that price. Lovely lovely car but surely not worth £19 in todays climate?
