If there were no Jaguars
Discussion
Straight back to Bangernomics for me.
£500 quid's - or maybe less - worth of well maintained but scruffy French desiel hatchback would do the job.
You don't care where you park it, you don't feel obliged to keep it clean and tidy or spend hours polishing it, you don't get pissed off with all the rattles, bits that don't work and foibles becuase you know it's just a piece of s
t so you don't have any expectations otherwise. It won't use more fuel then the last Gulf war on a long weekend away and you can buy spares, tyres and oil easily and cheaply from any motor factor.
What's more it'll have a lovely ride quality, squashy comfy seats and Mrs JS will happily drive it (and me) back from the pub without s
tting herself.
All this and more. But... You'd still miss the Jaguar.

...or a Jensen Interceptor.
Yes a Jensen would be worth a look, but I'd be more perverse and go for a CV8 or 541.An Alvis might be worth a look too, a Mulliner Park Ward bodied TF21 DHC would be nice, could even get the family in, but it wouldn't go the same.
Who knows? i choose my cars on a whim or build them up from bits i pick up that i think "may come in handy"
The last four i owned were a 2.9 cossie 24v powered mk5 Cortina, a 1975 stacklight mercedes benz 280ce pillarless coupe, an off road equipped diesel Range Rover and now my Jag, could be anything if there were no Jags, i like cars to much to be stuck with just one sort.

I would have to go back to Mercedes probably. I'm never buying another BMW after the last one with runflat low profile tyres and M Sport suspension which bounced around mid corner on bumps in an alarming way. And the ride quality was the worst I've ever experienced in any car by quite a margin, to the extent that on some bits of road I drive daily I found I was anticipating the crashes, bangs and bumps every time. If they go back to non-runflat tyres even as an option then maybe I would reconsider, but it's just not going to happen otherwise. Needless to say, the XKR takes the same bits of road in its stride without any drama or discomfort, despite equally low profile tyres and firm suspension. Jaguar know how to make the compromise between handling and ride work very successfully. The AMG Mercedes I had before the BMW was also fine on the same roads. BMW seem to be losing the plot nowadays, except for economy and emissions where they are always one step ahead of everyone else.
If there were no jaguars
What a thought, how sad
Think about it a bit for a minute, what would that say about our country's journey over the last 100 years.
I went into Sturgess in Leicester the other day, combined Jaguar and Land Rover. I thought what fine cars we make.
Shame the popular alternative is German.

For me, I only use the Jag as a second/classic car. I don't know what I'd buy if there were no Jags. The marque means a lot to me ever since I was eight. And I feel my XJR6 is the best Jag I could have purchased and had a reasonable chance of maintaining myself over the foreseabble future.
Nice to see there are some Jensen fans out there. I have the pleasure of driving this one belonging to my bro.

Took it for a weekend jaunt in the summer on some 600 odd mile trip and it performed really well in all types of traffic. It's really comfy and definately turns more heads than any other car I've driven. Loads of people are genuinely interested in it.
