XK8 Exhaust Fumes
Discussion
Evening all
Posting this query on behalf of a friend who doesn't have access to the internet at the moment.
He has a XK8 cab and has recently noticed a rather strong smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin. Either when stationary or moving slowly. Windows up, roof closed, doesn't matter if AC is on or off and no difference if heater fan is on or off.
Any ideas on places he can check to see if there is a leak into the cabin. Does the XK8 suffer from this at all. Sorry, but don't know much about Jags so any help would be much appreciated.
This has also coincided with the snow fall as of last week, not sure if this would have anything to do with it or not.
Cheers

Cheers for posting this Kris and thanks everyone for their suggestions on what might be wrong with my Jag.
To cut a long story short i took it to Tom at TL he diagnosed a number of issues. Gearbox, rear suspension, oil leak which caused the exhaust smell, leak from power stearing, bushes generally worn etc. Basically a knackered old Jag but told it to me straight that the repairs are barely worth the effort (the bodywork is also a bit shabby).
Cheers Tom and cheers Norman for the recommendation.
I can't recommend Tom highly enough. I'm sure many garages would ease you in with a few bills knowing you're then committed and it's more work for them but i drove my lemon of a jag off the forecourt £££s better off from Toms advice.
Thank you.

As you say Tom gives it to you straight, he will recomend the best way to get your car repaired and as you say not put you on the slippery road if the car value is not worth it.

I am puzzled here. I am looking to get an XK8 cab later this year so have been watching the prices recently, my max budget will be £10k and I have read about what to look for and am aware of the potential issues in an older can, but to suggest that for the work yours needs it is not worth bothering? How much would it cost to sort and what is the alternative? I guess there is a break up value in terms of parts, but is it really that high as to be equivalent to the cost of these repairs relative to the value of a fixed car?To cut a long story short i took it to Tom at TL he diagnosed a number of issues. Unfortunately a lot of jobs on the XKs can soon make a big hole in ones pocketsPersonally I feel the 10,000 mile service schedule is to long and not thorough enough
A 5,000 mile service and more items need to be looked at.
One such example is Jaguar saying that the gearbox doesn't need looking at for the life of the car!!!
Maybe they mean the gearbox goes bang at 110,000 miles, the cost of replacement at Jaguar prices, that is the death of the car.
X100 - you're spot on. If it was better looked after all round it wouldn't have got to the state it was in. I inherited it in a bad way with pockets not deep enough to save it.
Andy - There was nothing in it £5k value in the car - £5k bill to fix it - to be worth £10k ish. While i loved the car I live in London, doing about 20 slow traffic miles a day at 15 mpg, so there wasn't enough love for a £5k project.
I feel like a sell out but i'm thinking about a mk3 MX5.
