Hi,

for the second time in a year, someone has ripped open my fuel flap, pinched the fuel cap and had away about a quarter of a tank of fuel. Not very happy, last time I replaced cap and the plastic housing for the locking part and thought it would be ok as it was fairly secure when the car was locked. I have tried searching for a locking petrol or fuel cap for the X308 XJR and cannot find any for sale.

Has anyone found one from a different vehicle that fits and locks securely ?

Thanks

Cecil

It seems to be happening a lot.
I got a message from the local JEC guy the other night passing on a message from the Police warning of a wave of petrol thefts from Jaguars.

PETROL THEFT

I have been contacted by XXXXX XXXXX of Loddon Valley Police (Priority Crime Team) advising that there have been a number of thefts of petrol from Jaguars recently. The target cars seem to be XJ6/Sovereigns/XK8, indeed any jag aged from 1994 to 2002. The petrol has been syphoned at night from the cars parked on driveways. Please let anyone that you know who is not a member of our region to be on their guard.

If anyone knows how the petrol cap can be secured in addition to the cars normal security system please let the police know, their number is XXXXX XXXXXXXXX, ask for XXXXX.

Thanks, it looks as if we are being specifically targeted then, the first time it happened the car was parked on the road, more worryingly this time it happened on a private gravel drive, with the car parked about a foot from the house. Both times the fuel cap has been taken and the flap left open to the elements, there are a couple of XK's and an X300 in my road, I will have a chat with their owners and see if it has happened to anyone else.

Any suggestions for a locking petrol cap or other way to secure the fuel would be great, I don't see fuel prices going down and this additional taxation is not appreciated or sustainable frown

Perhaps print a big A4 sign and pop it on your parcel shelf - "THIS IS A WEEKEND CAR WITH LITTLE FUEL IN IT. FUEL STOLEN TWICE, SMILE YOU ARE ON CAMERA!". Edited to add - and hope they can read it in the light.

Unfortunately it made no difference and has happened again, this time they took every drop, FFS. I am going to have to go out and get a can from somewhere in the morning and get a gallon to get me to a petrol station frown very very very pi$$ed off. I am going to make a trip around all the motor factors I can find tomorrow and see if I can find a locking cap that fits, that is after I have bought the CCTV and a few other things that I shouldn’t mention on here.

There is litte point in me fixing the plastic part that is the keeper for the little bar that the central locking pin uses to lock the flap, as it has been ripped off three times now frown does anyone have any ideas on a more secure fixing for this ?

I cant help thinking if they are happy to rip off the outer flap, they will be happy enough to rip off a locking petrol cap too.

Really sorry to hear it keeps happening.

Back before cars had locking petrol caps, but when fuel prices had started to go skywards. I remember someone bring out a contraction you could insert into the line from the filler to the tank. This had a mesh filter so that fuel could still be poured in as normal, but made it very difficult to get pipe in from the top. You squeezed this thing together to get it in to the opening in the first place and it then sprang open to make it very difficult to remove.

Other thought. I wonder how easy it would be to rig up an alarm to the fuel cap door?
