05 S Type 'handbrake will not apply' warning.

Any idea's as to the cause of the fault?

Something sticking, solenoid not operating?

How does the electric handbrake work, does it just operate the rear brake pads or does it have it's own?

Any help appreciated.

You could try the electronic parking brake calibration procedure from this thread

Steelej, thanks for reply.

The recalibration instructions involve disconnecting the battery.

Anything else that might get upset by this.

Thanks

John

I disconnected my battery to recharge it, did it carefully and had no problems at all. Obviously you need your radio code handy.

A lot of modern cars seem to have control/sensor issues but they seem to be easy to fix. Don't panic.

Hi John,

You can also reset the EPB module by removing the EPB fuse for 30 seconds(the manual will have it's location), I've no idea if that's safer than disconnecting the battery.

Thanks for that, it certainly sounds safer, as I am only isolating the problem circuit. Will try at the weekend.

Love the EPB to bit's, it's a lovely feature. It's just at times like this I wish it was a simple cable!
