I went on ebay and asked him if he had proof that it was an early XJR, I said it looks like a sport with a grille and XJR badge on it to me. He said it isn't a 4.0 sport as it's a 94 model and they didn't do a 4 litre then???? He reckons it's a very rare bonafide XJR non supercharger.
So, there you have it!!! Anyone tempted???

I'm browsing the net at the moment looking at 6 cylinder XJRs and 4 litre sovereigns, looking to get something for my 40th in May. I love the look of the XJR and there's something about the sovereign also!
Gonna be a tuff one, but it's gonna come down to condition, service history etc. Seen some lovely XJRs on Auto trader and here, circa 3k, but they are stunning! Also seen some very nice sovs for around 2k. What do you lot think?

Yep, do it. Cheap prestige magic carpet travel.Gonna be a tuff one, but it's gonna come down to condition, service history etc. Seen some lovely XJRs on Auto trader and here, circa 3k, but they are stunning! Also seen some very nice sovs for around 2k. What do you lot think?
Oh there's no doubt it's gonna be a jag. I've waited too long now, and the prices are so low for such a car. Friends have suggested BMW and Mercs etc, but i've had BMWs before and wasn't happy with them, only the old 635 csi comes close. As for mercs, they don't do anything for me. I think first choice is the XJR, but i'm not ruling out other models!!

Nah! I think you've got to pay around 4K to get one which won't cost you a lot of money on top of the buying price
Disclaimer - my Sov is for sale here around that price and I love it as much as the XJR100 I replaced her with. Totally different ride and personality though - the Sov is like someone said here - a magic carpet ride while the XJR is quite a bit harsher (much because of the 255/35ZR19's I guess) but she takes off like a jet! I'd keep them both if I could justify it.

Well end of last year I picked up a XJ8 sov £2.8k FSH Main dealer
65k miles
Dark blue cream leather
And all in all it is immaculate, used it daily (bar during the heavy snow) done 2000 miles so far no issues bar frequent trips to stick more fuel in it.
So I would say that you could get a good one for about that much
It may be but it probably doesn't break any rules.
Back to the plot - my first Jaguar was a lovely 1990 4.0 Sovereign XJ40 I got from the local car auction (in the days when you could ring them up and ask a human 'Have you got any Jaguars in today please?' and they could tell you).
I remember that the 50-70 time was 4.4 secs (quicker than almost anything) and that if you put your foot down the consumption dropped to 4mpg - but not for long as very soon you were catching up the horizon. A friend of mine had a VW Beetle at the time. As we wafted effortlessly along at 70mph he compared his Beetle at the same speed - 'like breaking up on re-entry'

This is why it has to be a Jaguar! I want a car that puts a smile on my face at the end of a stressful day, a big comfortable cruiser that looks the business. It's not even about speed for me, it's the effortless and smooth drive you get with a jag. When I'm looking through the classifieds on the net, i just want to fast forward a few months so I can get my hands on one. The last time I wanted a car so much was when I bought a Golf GTI when I was 19.
What sort of ride does the XJR6 have? I imagine the lower profile tyres will give a firmer ride, but I still want the comfort. How compromised is the ride? A lot of what I've read gives the impression of a fast comfortable car, would you guys agree with this?
I would obviously try various models before I decide what to buy.

Pete, I'm going to have to be brutally honest here....It's a Jag. And not just any Jag, but an XJ. (meaning eXtra Jaguarness) And to cap all that off, it's an 'R', meaning 'Racing'. It will be very fast, it will be very comfortable and it will always look absolutely georgeous. I would obviously try various models before I decide what to buy.
It will make you feel like a king. Men will envy you, women will want to...........
You'll smile every time you look at it and think 'it doesn't get any better than this'.
You'll glide down your street bordered by german metal and know that we won that bloody war - and so will they.
It's a Jag, man. No need to think about petrol, garage bills etc. You are living the dream.
Happy 40th.
