Evening all,

Any ideas on this one ?

The wiper on my 1998 XJR does its own thing.

From what I can work out when I use any speed or wash or swipe it starts in normal speed and doesn't stop, even when the key is taken out of the ignition.

I have fitted two new relays at the front just behind the front left headlamp.

I have replaced the right ones I'm sure, if not feel free to take the P***

Any further constructive resolution would be happily received.

if you have changed the right relays (and it sounds like you have )the other common fault is the wiper motor .

Thankyou for the response, will have a look at giving the motor a clean before replacing it I think.

Didn't realise that this was a common fault. And I bet they cost a few quid as well !

they are not cheap but easy to fit so u can do yourself. you can test the motor by tapping with a hammer when the wiper reaches the rest position if it stops then it is the motor at fault

Thankyou again for your input, I will test this during the week.

Is there anywhere you can recommend that I can obtain one from ?

Hi,

Did this hammertest and you are right, motor is duff.

It appears to be very difficult to remove the old one, there are two screws that need slackening at the bottom and one of them I have no idea how to get at.

Any pointers ?

there is no need to slacken the screws . there is a slide that holds the assembly in place you need to locate the sliders and just pull them to release the motor assembly.if you can get your hand on the screws and feel 5mm to the side you will find the slides pull them towards the passenger side ofthe car they should release . they can be tight so patience is needed.

Pretty well seized these buggers !

I will spray something on them and leave them awhile.

Job done. Picked up a recon from a scrap yard. Thanks for the advice.
Now I shall go and see what else I can break....
